If it's true, it's a paradox. It's one single universe, but somehow we carve it up into many separate things, even through we have no way to determine where one thing ends and another begins. I seem to be the identical person I was 20 years ago, but pretty much every cell in my body has turned over. I'm basically the Ship of Theseus (check out the philosophers Plato, Peter Unger, Derek Parfit). I need to follow some rules in order to be morally good, except I sometimes have to break rules to be morally good. "Thou shalt not steal" except when it's the only way to feed a hungry baby, or the only way to get the secret plans from the Nazis, or the only option on the day the cashless society collapses in a panic, or... You get the picture. And at the same time, you don't get the picture. The law of noncontradiction is pretty useless out here in the grubby old world.
